BOX RALLIES GRANTS ANNOUNCED

We are very proud and excited to announce the research grants which have been funded by Box Rallies from the funds raised in the 2018/19 fundraising year.

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) is the pinnacle for vital funding from ground-breaking cancer research projects. They are Australia’s most prestigious health and medical funding body and are funded by the Australian Government through the Federal Budget. There are over 2,700+ health and medical applications submitted for NHMRC funding every year, but their budget only goes so far.

Previously, Box Rallies was able to fund multi-state research projects via Cancer Council grants.  From 2019, Box Rallies & Cancer Council have taken a new approach – one that means Box Rallies now funds the most outstanding cancer research projects nationally.  For the first time, Box Rallies has funded the next highest ranked grants after the NHMRC. This means that Box Rallies is now funding some of the most exciting cancer research projects across the country – with the highest potential to significantly impact those affected by cancer.

These projects are across the entire cancer journey – investigating the causes of cancer, how to prevent, detect and treat cancer and how to support people as they adjust to life after a cancer diagnosis.  This will reduce the impact of cancer for people now and for future generations.

The 2,700+ applications submitted to the NHMRC are put through an extremely rigorous process of review to whittle the list down into a ‘ranked list’ of the best research applications in the country.  Whilst this ‘ranked list’ have been assessed as ‘fundable’ only the very, very best, the top ranked applicants from any State or Territory in Australia will be funded by Box Rallies via Cancer Council.

Through the monies raised from the 2018 – 2019 fundraising year, Box Rallies are funding 7 grant proposals up to $450,000 each. Summaries of these are listed below.

These 7 grant proposals were amongst 67 eligible applications received by Cancer Council from the NHMRC; therefore, Box Rallies have enabled funding for over 10% of those applications received. The applications supported by Box Rallies funding were the most nationally outstanding applications, therefore this means Box Rallies will fund some of the most exciting cancer research projects across the country.

The grants are awarded in March each year, so we look forward to seeing how the funds raised in the 2019/20 fundraising year continue to support our best national cancer researchers.
